TEXTILE AND FIBER ART- What is it?

Using natural or man-made fibers combined with methods such as weaving, dyeing, fusing or stitching to create pieces of art.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
In textiles we will use both natural and synthetic materials and fibers to create original artwork through exploration of different techniques and processes. We will evaluate textile and fiber designs from different time periods, cultures and artists while assessing the characteristics and merits of the work.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
MAKE ART- Apply various media, techniques and processes related to textile and fiber design to create artwork that is original and personal.
CRITIQUE ART- Evaluate artwork from various time periods, cultures and artists based on subject matter, symbols, and ideas, while assessing characteristics and merits of the work.
MAKE EDUCATED CHOICES AND OPINIONS- Use the elements of art and principles of design for creating and evaluating works of art.

EVALUATION
Your learning will be evaluated through your sketchbook assignments, projects, and the final. Specifically for evaluation of your projects, they should be technically correct, show creativity through the process and/or subject matter, and show personal expression. All work that is assigned must be turned in completed by the due date for the possibility of full credit.  If an assignment is turned in by the due date but is incomplete, 10% will be deducted.  The assignment can later be finished within that 9 weeks and turned back in for additional credit but the 10% deduction will remain.  If an assignment is not turned by the original due date, 20% will be automatically deducted from your grade whether the project is complete or not.  If you are not happy with a grade on an assignment, in most cases you may improve or redo the assignment for additional credit by first talking with me and completing the new assignment within the 9 weeks it was assigned and up to the date of the final.

EXPECTATIONS
There are two general expectations for this class. The first is that you are respectful of other people (teachers, peers, yourself, substitutes, guests, etc.) and materials we use. The second is to act responsibly (come to class, don't mess around, be on time, turn in your assignments on time, clean up your space).
